Add my storyBiography contributed by Stephen Brooks
Edgar John Markillie travelled to Sydney during August 1912. According to his entry in De Ruvigny's Roll of Honour, 1914-1919, he had gained accountancy examination just before enlistment, also examination in book keeping, first class. He excelled in sport of all kind, and was one of the crack shots of the second Australian contingent. He was killed in action during the heavy fighting at Lone Pine. His younger brother 156 Private Ernest Stuart Markillie, London Rifle Brigade, had already been killed in action at Bailleul France during January 1915.
His English mother put Melbourne down as his place of association on his Roll of Honour form, though it appears he enlisted in Sydney.
