"THE LATE PRIVATE BENNE.
Mrs. L. M. C. Benne, Alberton, has been notified by the military authorities that her husband, Private L. M. C. Benne, was killed in action in France on December 8. He left South Australia on July 13, and went to France on November 5. He was well known and respected at Port Adelaide, where for many years he resided. He was a member of the Port Adelaide Working Men's Association. Private Benne, who was a native of Rotterdam, Holland, spent his 25th birthday in the trenches." - from the Adelaide Chronicle 13 Jan 1917 (nla.gov.au)
