Son of Richard John Jupp Ockenden and Mary Elizabeth Ockenden nee Lampard of Burra, SA.

Apprenticed to C.C. Williams of Kooringa, SA for five years

Next of kin was given as his sister Nellie Ockenden Kooringa, Burra, SA.

Brother of Stanley Leslie Ockenden who returned to Australia on 17 July 1919 having served with the 2nd Tunnelling Company; Arthur Gordon Ockenden who returned to Australia on 11 October 1918 having served with the 7th Field Ambulance; Harold Ockenden who was killed in action on 7 October 1917 and has no known grave, his name appears on Menin Gate, Ypres, Panel 23; Richard Allan Ockenden who returned to Australia on 16 October 1915  having served with the 3rd Light Horse Regiment; Oliver Henry (Twist) Ockenden who returned to Australia on 10 May 1918 having served with the 50th Battalion.

Commenced return to Australia on 8 September 1919 aboard HT Raranga
