Biography

Son of Edward William and Caroline (nee Stewart, formerly Cormack) Simms.  Father worked for NSW Railways and Charlie started work in NSW, later West Australia.  He enlisted at Liverpool, Sydney 1 Feb 1915 age 36.  Saw brief service at Gallipoli (wounded), then north Africa briefly, then posted to France.

Taken prisoner of war in August 1916.  He received Red Cross parcels and cards and letters from his family in Australia at both the Dulmen and Schneidemuhl POW camps in Germany.  

Repatriated back to England in December 1918.  He married in 1920 at St. Leonards, Sydney to Evelyn Cale.  No children.  His brother 2015 Pte. Alfred Simms (/explore/people/212016) also served overseas.
