Biography

Son of Edward William and Caroline (nee Stewart, formerly Cormack) Simms.  Like his father he worked for the NSW railways.  Alfred was a sniper at Lone Pine at Gallipoli, where he was badly wounded. Unable to return to Railways after the war and did clerical work, first for the Dept. of Repatriation, then the G.P.O. and finally as a costing clerk at Garden Island for the R.S.N. (as a civilian).  He was in and out of hospital most of the time, and lost his left leg. He married in 1916 and had 3 daughters.   He is listed on War Memorial at Lidcombe, Sydney.
