Biography contributed by Terry Eaton

Clyde was born in Goulburn in 1895, the illegitimate child of Sarah Smith and George Tuttlebee.

Sarah died in Sydney in 1897 and George married in Goulburn in 1896 and had 11 children.

Clyde was initially raised by his grandparents, Joseph and Emma, but in April of 1900 was placed in foster care. At first he was living in Mittagong with the Baker family but in August 1900 he was with the Dennett family, who cared for him to his adulthood.

He was educated in Picton and joined the military cadets, then joined the 9th Light Horse Brigade. In August 1915 he enlisted for service overseas in the 1st world war. In 1916 he served in France and in 1917 suffered a sever head wound, which resulted in him returning to Australia and being discharged.

His enlistment papers describe Reginald Cheetham as his next of kin and beneficiary, so it appears that his relationship with Edwin and Charlotte Dennett may not have been that close.

He continued to live in Picton and in 1924 was living in Lumsdaine Street. He married Florence Cracknell in 1925. There are no records yet available to describe if they had children.

In 1940 Clyde and Florence left Picton. Florence died in 1954 in Burwood, and it appears that Clyde died in Umina in 1981.
