Lance Corporal John Dudley Duke (Service No:VX79976) initially served with the Militia (Trooper; Service No:472210) with 4th Light Horse Regiment from 19 June 1939 to 6 December 1939. On 20 May 1942 he enlisted in the AIF as a Private attached to 20 Australian Army Service Corps (AASC) Training Depot, trnasferring to 4th Field Squadron RAE on 8 June 1942. He served in New Guinea (25 July 1943 - 10 September 1944) and Bougainville and Torokina until 3 January 1946. Lance Corporal Duke was attached to 53 Australian Field Park Coy at Discharge on 22 January 1946.

Born in 1923 in Ballarat in Victoria, Jack was the eldest of two children of John Duke (b1899 in Ballarat, Victoria) and Grace Alice Martland (b1900 in Sebastopol, Victoria). John (a Tram Motorman) and Grace married in 1921 in Ballarat, Victoria and settled in Beaufort where they raised their family. John enlisted in the Police Force in the 1920s and served as Police Constable in Beaufort until retirement.

Jack worked as a Motor Mechanic and in 1944 in Ballarat married Olive Joy Vowles (b1923 in Beaufort, Victoria). Jack and Olive settled in Ballarat where they raised their family and Jack worked as a Motor Mechanic. Jack died in 2002 and Olive in 2006.
