Sydney Featherstone COOPER was born in Hanley, Staffordshire, England in 1898
His parents were Sydney Featherstone COOPER & Mary Ellen HIGGINBOTHAM
He enlisted in Gormanston, Tasmania on 6th September, 1917 and embarked from Melbourne with the 40th Infantry Battalion, 9th reinforcements on the HMAT Aeneas on 30th October, 1917
Sydney was Killed in Action in Villers-Bretonneux , Amiens in France on 26th May, 1918 and is buried in the Villers Bretonneux Military Cemetery
Inscription reads:
"IN MEMORY OF THE DEARLY LOVED SON OF MR. & MRS COOPER OF GORMANSTON"

His brother Leonard COOPER (SN 3394) also served in WW1 and returned to Australia in 1918 - he then served during WW2 (SN N282006)
