Jack was the youngest of two children of Oscar Mondrad Julius Michelsen (b1887 in Bergin, Norway) and Ada Ellen Willey (b1888 in Bunbury, WA). Oscar arrived in Sydney NSW in 1908 as a Fireman on board the Opland. He was a Mariner on board the SS Vigilant in Bunbury WA when he and Ada married in 1912 in Bunbury WA. Oscar and Ada lived in Bunbury, where Oscar was a Labourer, until the 1920s when the family moved to Perth. Oscar worked as a Labourer and a Rigger and the family lived in the Swan Brewery Cottage on Mounts Bay Rd in Perth.
Jack was working as a Labourer in Perth in 1938 when he married Sylvia Clark (b1922). In 1942 Jack was a Brewery Employee in Perth when he enlisted in the ACMF. He served as a Driver (Service No:W60012) with 122, 124 and 125 General Transport Coys and was Discharged in December 1945.
Jack and Sylvia continued to live in Perth, where Jack worked for the Brewery. He died in 1985 and Sylvia in 2013.
