Basic biography
Les was born in Lowestoft, a small fishing village in Suffolk, the furthest point east in England, on the 8 December 1904.
Les emigrated as a 17-year-old on 4 July 1922 under the Dreadnought Scheme of child migration, eventually settling down in Leeton in the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area of New South Wales. On 25 September 1926 he married Mary Ann ("Mollie") Moore in Leeton, where they raised four sons and a daughter.
Les and Mollie moved to Cedar Street in Leeton, a home that still evokes happy memories for their grandchildren.
As they got older, they moved into a nursing home together in nearby Narrandera where they lived out their years. Les departed on 10 September 1987. Mollie followed on 13 May 1993. They are buried together in Leeton.
Much loved.
