Private James Alfred Polley (Service No:V103858) served in the ACMF from 8 July 1941 to 11 June 1946. Private Polley - graded Driver - served with No 12 Employment Platoon and 7 Australian Heavy Transport (AHT) Coy, and was attached to 140 Australian General Transport (AGT) Coy at Discharge. Siblings Walter, Douglas and Audrey also served in WWII.

Jim was born in Geelong, Victoria in 1918, ninth of eleven children of Charles Baker Polley (b1875 in Connewarre via Geelong, Victoria) and Minnie Violet Milsom (b1880 in London, England) - Minnie immigrated with her parents and siblings in 1889, arriving in Melbourne, Victoria on board the Liguria. Charles (a Farmer) and Minnie married in 1907 in Geelong, and settled in Connewarre where they raised their family and Charles was a Farmer.

Jim worked as a Farm Labourer for his father in Connewarre, and was a Farmer in 1952 when, in Colac, he married Caroline (Carol) Ermina Heywood (b1924 in Colac, Victoria). Jim and Carol settled in Yeo via Colac, where they raised their family and Jim was a Farmer. Carol died in 2007 and Jim in 2012.
