Carl was the son of Thomas & Isabella HARDING and was born in 1898 in Warracknabeal, VIC.
His father was born in 1883 and his mother was born in 1877.
Carl was the eldest child born into the family of 2 children.
His father was a publisher and theatrical manager and the family lived at 101 Angas Street, Adelaide.
Carl was born with a deformed right foot and after leaving school he gained employment as an Iron moulder with Lipson & Son in Adelaide.
At the age of 20, Carl enlisted into the AIF on the 12th of February 1917 in Adelaide and allotted the service number 3072 and posted to B Company, AMC (Australian Medical Corp) in Mitcham Camp.
On the 1st of May he was posted to the 43rd Battalion, 7th Reinforcements and embarked from Adelaide on board HMAT A7 Borda on the 23rd of June 1917.
He disembarked in Plymouth on the 25th of August and marched into the 11th Training Battalion in Larkhill.
During the next several weeks of training Carl struggled to march and train with his deformed foot and was classified him “C3”, Permanently unfit for service.
On the 5th of April 1918 he embarked from England on board HMAT Borda, disembarked in Melbourne on the 30th of May and then entrained to Adelaide.
Carl was discharged, medically unfit, from the AIF on the 14th of September 1918 and awarded the British War Medal.
By 1924 he had moved to Solomontown, Pt Pirie and gained employment as an iron moulder and was playing football for the Solomontown Football Club.
Carl married Madeline Veronica MUNRO on the 6th of August 1932 in St Marks Church, Pt Pirie, SA.
Madeline was the daughter of Malcolm James MUNRO & Nancy Annie Gertrude O’KEEFE and was born on the 11th of August 1904 in Murray Bridge, SA.
They made their home at 29 King Street, Solomontown and then in 1942 they moved to 32 Esmond Road, Pt Pirie South and Carl joined the Pt Pirie RSL.
Madeline died on the 4th of October 1945 in the Pt Pirie Hospital and Carl buried her the following day in the Pt Pirie Cemetery; CR, Lot 54, Grave 4.
Carl then became a SP Bookmaker and moved home in 1952 to live with his parents at 101 Angas Street, Adelaide.
Then after the death of his parents he moved back to Pt Pirie.
Carl died on the 12th of November 1963 and was buried the following day in the Pt Pirie Cemetery; CR, Lot 54, Grave 4, with Madeline.
Military

On the 5th of November he was transferred to the 10th Training Battalion in Sutton Mandeville and then on the 30th of November he was transferred to No 2 Command Depot, Monte Vide Camp, Weymouth awaiting his embarkation orders.
On the 5th of April 1918 he embarked from England on board HMAT Borda, disembarked in Melbourne on the 30th of May and then entrained to Adelaide.
Carl was discharged, medically unfit, from the AIF on the 14th of September 1918 and awarded the British War Medal.
