Arthur Thomas Grubb

Known as Tom by family and friends, Tom was born in Traralgon, Victoria on May 17th, 1916 to Arthur Herbert Grubb and May (Molly) Alice Aird. He was one of five children. Two of his younger siblings died young - Lilian and Ernest. There was also Muriel and Ronald.
He spent his early years in Traralgon and during World War II enlisted in the Army (1945) serving in Egypt, Papua New Guinea and Pacific Islands.
He married Ethel Dorothy (Dot) Brittain on March 31, 1945 in Collingwood, Victoria. They had four children: Jonathan Albert (stillborn), Thomas Steven John, Robert Bruce and Dorothy Winette Alice.
After the war he worked for some years for a Mr Gibney in Benalla, Victoria breaking in horses which were later shipped to India.
He worked as a foreman at a manufacturing company 'Flexdrives' when he and his family lived in Fawkner, Victoria.
It was during this time he was approached by Mr Noble Pennell, son-in-law of Mr Gibney above, who offered him a managers role on his farm 'Devon Park' in Sunbury, Victoria. Tom accepted, moved the family to a house on the farm, and worked there for the next six/seven years. Upon the deaths of Noble and his wife Rona, the family left the farm and moved into town and Tom got a job working in the then Sunbury Mental Hospital - later renamed Sunbury Training Centre. Tom worked there until his retirement and then spent his time working in his much loved vegetable garden where he grew numerous produce and turned it into pickles, preserves and fresh goods to share. He also enjoyed wood turning.
Tom passed away on July 22, 1998 in Sunbury Hospital, Sunbury and was buried at Sunbury Lawn Cemetery.
