Edward was born in Northumberland, England in 1902, tenth of eleven children of Nicholas Crozier (b1850 in Gosforth, Northumberland) and Jane Alcroft (b1864 in Newburn, Northumberland). Nicholas (a Coal Miner) and Jane (an Agricultural Labourer) married in Newcastle in 1885, and lived in Northumberland where they raised their family and Nicholas was a Coal Miner.
Edward started work as a Coal Miner, and in 1925 married his first wife Isabella Gowans (b1906 in Hartford, Northumberland) - Isabella was a Waitress in Mason. Edward and Isabella had divorced by 1927, and Edward immigrated in 1928, arriving in Fremantle on board the Hobsons Bay.
