Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

Percy was the youngest of three brothers who enlisted in the AIF. He was the only survivor, his brothers’ 1145 Pte. Vere Claude Marshall 26th Battalion AIF, died of Gallipoli wounds in England in 1915 and 1216 Sergeant John Herbert Marshall 26th Battalion AIF was killed in at action at Pozieres during 1916.

Percy received a Military Medal in 1917 with the 22nd Machine Gun Company, during the Battle of Menin Road in Belgium when, “though wounded in the shoulder by shrapnel he fired his gun in heavy shell fire as the Gun's crews were depleted by casualties. After the action when reporting to the aid post he was evacuated wounded immediately.”

Percy was gassed later in 1918 but returned to Australia in 1919. He later served in WW2 but passed away in 1948, at 51 years of age.
