Private Herbert Hugh Crooke (Service No:VX68155) enlisted in the Australian Army on 29 December 1941. He was attached to 33 Infantry Training Battalion AACC when he was Discharged on 31 October 1945.
Born in 1908 in Melbourne Victoria, Herbert was the youngest of two children of Charles Herbert Crooke (b1875 in Bacchus Marsh, Victoria) and Annie Lily Vasey Reed (nee Keating; b1872 in Ballarat, Victoria) - Annie was a Widow. Charles (a Gardener/Fruit Grower) and Annie married in 1903 in Ballarat, Victoria, and by 1909 the couple had settled in Melbourne, Victoria where Charles was a Travelling Salesman. Charles died in 1922 and Annie in 1923.
Herbert was working as a Plasterer in Perth WA in 1929 when he married Eileen Gladys Reid (b1899 in Fremantle, WA). The couple moved to Aspindale, Victoria where Herbert worked as a Plasterer. Herbert died in 1972 and Eileen in 1991.
