Harry Richard Appledore an Australian labourer was born in Inglewood a small town in the Adelaide Hills near Adelaide, South Australia. To Harry’s years coming up to the war he would do multiple jobs including digging trenches, unloading building materials, and preparing job sites.

Harry Appledore enlisted to war on the 22nd of February 1915 in his local town Inglewood. His mother Mrs Eliza Ann Appledore was recorded as his next of kin. Soon after on the 31st of May 1915 he embarked on his journey on board Private, SN 498, 27th Infantry Battalion, HMAT Geelong, Adelaide. During early 1917 he was hospitalised for some time with a fractured foot.

His final unit was the 2nd Pioneer Battalion, and he promoted from a driver to a Corporal once the war was over. In April 1919 he married Hilda Chalke and they were both repatriated back to Australia arriving 18/8/1919.
