Military Medal Citation:

'At MESSINES during the attack on 7th June 1917, this N.C.O. went out with the engineer reconnaissance party and was of great assistance to his Officer. Later he did excellent work in organising a strong point and set a fine example of coolness and courage under heavy fire.'
