Roy Stanley Rickard was the only one of three sons of Charles and Hannah Rickard of Kingston, Victoria, who returned to Australia. He passed away in his home town less than three years later, in 1922.
Roy had 1314 days’ service mainly in the 59th Battalion. It was said he was a member of the local Fire brigade, and was extremely popular. The newspapers mentioned that complaint was made that a medical report on his case remained unanswered by the Repatriation Department for seven weeks before his death.
His two brothers who fell during the Great war were 476 Lce. Cpl. Harry Cecil Rickard 9th Light Horse Regiment who was killed in action at Gallipoli on 3 September 1915, aged 21 and 1762 Pte. Clarence Charles Rickard 58th Battalion AIF who died of wounds in France on 1 April 1917, aged 26.
