Lance-Corporal Lindsay Stuart MacCallum, who died aged 22, was the third son of the Mr. Hector and Mrs. Emma McCallum of Grenfell. He was for a number of years in the employ of as mechanic with Mr. Steve Stringer of Grenfell, and afterwards with Bennett and Wood, Sydney.

Lindsay MacCallum served right through the Gallipoli campaign and was promoted to Corporal soon after the evacuation and then to Lance Sergeant just prior to his death. He was killed by shellfire at Pozieres according to eye witnesses.

Lindsay’s father had died in 1912 and the family seemed to have lived at Grenfell for some time but his mother Emma was living back in Mittagong soon after the war. His older brother 3187 Pte. Hector Archie MacCallum 55th Battalion AIF was 2 years later killed in action 30 September 1918, aged 27.
