Corporal William Henry Wright (Service Nos:424706/NX9891) initially served in the Militia (12 February 1934 - 30 June 1935) as a Private attached to 56th Battalion, and enlisted in the AIF on 5 January 1940 - Specialist Group Cook. Private Wright was attached to 2nd/4th Infantry Battalion on 10 January 1940 when he embarked with his Unit from Sydney for Kantara. Corporal Wright served with 2nd/4th Infantry Battalion in Palestine, Bardia, Tobruk, Derna, Bengazi, and Greece and Crete, and was WiA by a Bomb Blast on 30 May 1941. Corporal Wright embarked from Port Tewfik for Port Adelaide on 25 May 1942 on board HMT Rajula, and was attached to 8 Line of Command Provost Coy at Discharge on 27 April 1945. His father served in the AIF in WWI and WWII, and his sister Lucy served in the WAAAF in WWII.

Bill was born in Sydney, New South Wales in 1911, eldest of four children of William Ellis Wright (b1884 in Sydney, New South Wales) and Lucy Ann Scott (b1886 in Sydney, New South Wales). William (a Storeman) and Lucy married in 1910 in Sydney, where they settled and raised their family and William worked as a Motor Driver - and served in the Army in both WWI and WWII.

Bill worked as a Storeman-Packer in Sydney, and in 1930 married Sarah Smith Wall (b1912 in Northumberland, England) - Sarah immigrated with her mother and siblings in 1919, arriving in Sydney on board the Benalla (her father had arrived in 1912, and served in the AIF in WWI). Bill and Sarah settled in Sydney, where they raised their family and Bill worked as a Storeman-Packer and Motor Driver. Following his Discharge from the Army, Bill and Sarah divorced in 1946. Bill settled in Sydney, where he worked as a Motor Driver/Carter and Storeman until his death in 1969.
