Memories of Auntie Margaret

Margaret May Mann (1884-1971) was the fifth child of John Smith MANN and Mary Ann YELLAND. Margaret's other siblings were Horas, who died when only a month old, Elsie Louisa MANN (1878-1970) who trained as a nurse and never married, Oliff Victor MANN (1880-1954) who had no children, Edgar Stanley MANN (1882-1976), Fred Sinclair MANN (1885-1972), who had three sons, Laurence, Ronald and John Gertrude Irene MANN (1888-1968) who graduated B.A. from the University of Adelaide and was the Principal of Miss Mann's Business College until her retirement, and Alice Zeala MANN (1891-1980), the youngest of the three maiden aunts.
I vividly remember the family occasions with the three great-aunts, as I am the younger daughter of Ronald, whose father was Fred and Margaret's brother, so I am the grand niece of Auntie Margaret. On her death, her uniform and medals were bequeathed to my father, and I am now the custodian of her red nurse's cape and medals, plus two letters written to her during the war by her father. I am happy to provide photos of these materials.
As well as her service medals, there is also the Croix de Guerre with a bronze laurel branch. I am curious to know more about the origin of the Croix de Guerre.
Best regards
Helen Louise Leake AM nee MANN
