Sergeant David Charles Truran (Service No:WX37576) initially served with the Militia (Service No:WP5971) as a Sergeant (1 September 1936; 23rd Heavy Battery RAAM) and the ACMF (23 February 1939 - 1 February 1943) with 5 Fortress Coy Fremantle and Albany Fortress Signals. Sergeant Truran enlisted in the AIF on 2 February 1943 and served with Fremantle Fortress Signals and 14 Line Maintenance Coy in the Northern Territory (3 October 1943 - 12 November 1945). Sergeant Truran was attached to 17 Line of Command Signals at Discharge on 6 December 1945.

David was born in 1915 in Fremantle WA, third of four children of Thomas Charles Truran (b1877 in Cornwall, England) and Florence Gertrude Evans (b1889 in Dublin, Ireland). Thomas immigrated with his parents and siblings, arriving Fremantle in 1880 and Florence (a Domestic Servant) immigrated in 1911, arriving in Fremantle on board the Australind. Thomas worked as a Labourer in Cue and Geraldton, and in 1912 was a Station Hand at Muralgarra Station via Yalgoo when he and Florence married in Geraldton. Theirs was a tumultuous relationship and they separated on more than one occasion - finally in 1917 in Fremantle. Thomas worked as a Clearer in Kondinin and Florence as a Cleaner in Fremantle.

David worked as a Motor Mechanic in Fremantle before enlisting in the Army. In 1940 in Ashfield, NSW he married his first wife - Mary Josephine Burton (b1920 in Perth, WA) - and they Divorced in 1943 in Perth WA. David remarried in Perth in 1944 to Mavis (Mike) Irene Harrison (nee Openshaw; b1910 in Boulder, WA) and, following his Discharge from the Army, David and Mike settled in Fremantle where David worked as a Shop Assistant and Store Manager. Foloowing Mike's death in 1951, David remarried to third wife Mary Julia Carroll (b1922 in Kalgoorlie, WA) - Mary worked as a Phone Attendant in Perth. David and Mary lived in Cunderdin - where David worked as a Truck Driver and Mary as a Shop Assistant - before moving to Kanowna via Kalgoorlie in the late 1950s, where David worked for WAGR as a Fettler. By the mid 1960s David and Mary moved back to Perth where David worked as a Forklift Driver. David died in 1970 and Mary in 1993.
