William James TOBIN was born William COLEMAN on 04.08.1882 at Worlds End near Burra to Margaret COLEMAN. (1865-1935)  (father not known). 

His mother then married Thomas TOBIN (1861-1936) on 25.03.1885 at the Kapunda.

On 30.03.1911, he married Alice May SLOAN (1884-1956) at the Methodist Church, Solomontown.

William TOBIN joined the AIF on 14.02.1916 and was given service number 588.   

He was allocated to the 43rd Infantry Battalion. 

He served on the Western Front. And was wounded in action on 20.07.17 after sustaining a gunshot wound to the head and thigh.   He was evacuated to England for treatment and remained in hospital in England until his return to Australia

He was returned to Australia in June 1918 and on 25.06.1918, he was discharged as medically unfit.
