OBITUARY.
MR. J. A. GUTHRIE.
The announcement of the death, on Friday, of Mr. John Alexander Guthrie, was received with deep regret. He was 67 years of age and had been a resident of Echuca East for 14 years. He was formerly employed as foreman by the Echuca Borough Council but had been unable to follow any employment in recent years owing to the state of his health. He leaves a widow, two daughters, Joyce (Mrs F. Longshaw, Deniliquin), Phylis (Mrs P. Michalowsky, Echuca) and two sons, Tom and William. His eldest son, Jack, of the the AIF, gave 'his" life for his country.
The funeral on Saturday was at the Echuca Cemetery, the service at St. Mary's Church and at the gravesifie being conducted by the Rev. Prior Maddock. Mr. H. Droman conducted the RSL service and members of that organisation deposited poppies on The coffin. There was a large number of floral tributes, amongst which were special wreaths from the councillors and staff of the Borough and from he RSL. Coffin bearers were: Messrs B Currie, H Aspinail, E. White, F. Bethune, F. Longshaw, P. Michalowsky; and the pall-bearers: Messrs A. Pouting, D. Davies, S. Owen, W. Symons, E. Norman, J. Hayes.
