Private William George Gardner (Service Nos:WX31602/W35343) initially served with the ACMF (16 February 1941 - 5 September 1942) and was a Gunner attached to 109/112 Tank Attack Regiment when he enlisted in the AIF on 6 September 1942. Private Gardner served with 109/112 Tank Attack Regiment in the Philippines (10 October 1944 - 1 May 1945) and in Morotai and Balikapan (21 June 1945 - 6 October 1945). Private Gardner was attached to 112 Light Anti Aircraft Regiment RAA at Discharge on 14 December 1945.
Born in 1912 in Perth WA, Bill was third of five children of George Dinely Gardner (b1867 in Warwickshire, Engand) and Catherine (Kate) Elizabeth Seagrove (b1871 in London, England). George (an Insurance Agent) and Kate married in 1908 in Perth, WA and lived in Perth and Fremantle where George was an Insurance Agent and Motorman until his death in 1941.
Bill worked as a Labourer and Truck Driver in Perth where, in 1941 he married Eileen Alma Clifford (b1919 in Boulder, WA). Following his Discharge, Bill worked as a Cartege Contractor in Perth, and he and Eileen divorced in 1950. Bill and his brother Jack then lived with their mother in Perth until her death in 1953, and shared a house in Perth until Bill remarried in the late 1960s to Johanna (Jane) Hedwig Dunker (b1925 in Germany). Bill (a Taxi Proprietor) and Jane lived in Mandurah and Perth. Jane died in 1979 and Bill in 2003.
