Clarence (known as Clarrie) enlisted at Blackboy Hill and sailed for Egypt on 1 November 1915 arriving there in December 1915. He went to Mena Camp and later went into action with his unit. He remained with his unit until the 9 April 1917 when he was sent to hospital with a gunshot wound to his left arm. He rejoined his unit and returned to Australia 10th July 1919 on HT Oxfordshire. Clarrie married Olive May McGregor in 1922 in the Swan District, Western Australia, they had a daughter Janice during their marriage.
