Ron was the sixth of eight children of Alfred Frederick Brookes (b1890 in Lake Cooper, Victoria) and Louisa Sarah Dyson (b1893 in Perth, WA). Alfred was in Guildford WA with his parents by 1903, and was a Farmer when he and Louisa married in 1912 in Narrogin WA. The couple settled in the Margaret River region at Matricup near Cowaranup WA where Alfred was a Farmer. By 1936 Alfred and Louisa had moved to Middle Swan WA with their children. Alfred worked as a Bricklayer.
Ron was living in Middle Swan WA and working as a Bricklayer's Assistant when he enlisted in the Australian Army in November 1941. He served as a Sapper (Service No:WX17614) with 22 Mechanical Equipment Park Coy RAE in Darwin (26 September 1943 - 2 November 1944) and was Discharged in May 1946. Ron's brothers Bernard Allan and Herbert (Herb) Thomas also served in WWII.
In 1947 Ron married Eugenie (Gene) Viola Smith (b 1926 in Fremantle, WA). The couple settled in Kenwick and Perth where Ron worked as a Bricklayer. They lived briefly in Townsville, QLD in the mid 1970s - where Ron was a Bricklayer - before returning to Perth WA by 1980. Ron died in 2018.
