Died on this date – 17th January.... Private Jack Baxter was born at Cooktown, Queensland in 1891. He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) on 8th June, 1917 as a 26 year old Miner.

Private Jack Baxter embarked from Sydney on HMAT Euripides (A14) on 31st October, 1917 with the 52nd Infantry Battalion, 10th Reinforcements & disembarked at Devonport, England on 26th December, 1917 where he was to receive further training before being sent to the War Front.
Private Jack Baxter was marched in to 13th Training Battalion, Codford, Wiltshire on 26th December, 1917. He was sent sick to Group Hospital at Codford with Influenza (Bronchitis & Asthma recorded on Hospital Admissions form) on 2nd January, 1918.

Private Jack Baxter was transferred & admitted to the Military Hospital at Sutton Veny, Wiltshire on 7th January, 1918 with Bronchitis.

Private Jack Baxter died at 1.45 a.m. on 17th January, 1918 at the Military Hospital, Sutton Veny of Bronchitis purulent. A Post mortem examination was completed on 18th January, 1918 – diagnosis – death from acute purulent bronchitis.

Private Jack Baxter was buried in St. John the Evangelist Churchyard at Sutton Veny, Wiltshire, England where 140 other WW1 Australian Soldiers & 2 Australian Nurses are buried.
