"...2387 Private Donald John Grant, 9th Battalion from Cairns, Queensland. A 25 year old labourer prior to enlisting on 16 January 1915, he embarked for overseas with the 7th Reinforcements from Sydney on 20 August 1915 aboard HMAT Shropshire (A9). While serving at Gallipoli, he fell seriously ill and was evacuated to Egypt where he died on 23 June 1916. Pte Grant is buried in the Cairo War Memorial Cemetery, Egypt." - SOURCE (www.awm.gov.au)
