World War 1 Service

15 Jun 1915: Involvement AIF WW1, 1646, 3rd Light Horse Regiment, In Tele Kebir Tel el Kebir camp between Cairo and the Suez Canal. Australian troops came here after the evacuation of the Gallipoli peninsula; here the organisation of the 4th and 5th Divisions began in February 1916. In the foreground is a roofless, possibly ruined house with a garden. Stores are piled beyond; on the left are two large tents and beyond is a sea of Eight Person Indian Production (EPIP) tents used for accommodation

1 Mar 1916: Involvement AIF WW1, 1646, 3rd Light Horse Regiment, In Heliopolis - Egypt. The Heliopolis Palace Hotel in Cairo, Egypt, was the location of No. 1 Australian General Hospital (1AGH) from Janurary 1915, during World War I. It was close to Cairo Luna Park, and the hospital progressivly expanded to use the Luna Park buildings during 1915 and 1916.
27 May 1916: Involvement AIF WW1, 1646, 3rd Light Horse Regiment, In Cairo They set up Mena Camp near the Great Pyramids outside Cairo and began training in preparation for the Western Front and Gallipol
