31 Jul 1918: | Honoured Military Medal, Citation reads: For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during a raid against the enemy defences north east of Sailly-le-Sec, south west of Albert, on 4th July 1918. Early in the fight Private Higgs' section leader fell wounded, and Private Higgs, realising the importance of leadership at such a time, took command and led his men to their objective. During the advance his party came under heavy trench mortar and machine gun fire, Private Higgs, who set a fine example of coolness and disregard of danger. In the final assault Private Higgs accounted for two of the enemy with his bayonet.
