Son of John Outen and Sophia Outen nee Major of Williamstown, Victoria.
Prior to enlisting John had been captain of the St. Kilda Football Team.
Next of kin given as his aunt Emily Parlatto of Harold Street, Middle Park, Victoria later changed to his sister Ivy Sophia Outen of Stephenson Street, Richmond, Victoria.
Thought to have had a son with Daphne Truscott also named John Thomas Outen of Elizabeth Street, Richmond, Victoria. Medals and Memorial Plaque issued to John
