Great Sydney Central Station Honour Board

Alexander Valentine DEAN (Service Number 1114) was born on 14 February 1894 at Lockhart and began work with the NSW Railways in September 1910 at Junee as a probationer in the Traffic Branch where he soon became a junior porter with routine pay increase on his birthdays. His father was the station-master at Lockhart.
He was released from duty to join the Expeditionary Forces on 1 September 1914, only a few weeks after the war began and became an adult porter on his 21st birthday, although by this time he was a soldier in Europe, having embarked from Sydney on HMAT ‘Euripides’ on 20 October.

Alexander Valentine DEAN, (Service Number 1114) was born on 14th February 1894 at Lockhart and began work with the NSW Railways in September 1910 at Junee as a probationer in the Traffic Branch where he soon became a junior porter with routine pay increases on his birthdays. His father was the station-master at Lockhart.

He was released from duty to join the Expeditionary Forces on 1st September 1914, only a few weeks after the war began. He became an adult porter on his 21st birthday, although by this time he was a soldier in Europe. He left from Sydney on HMAT ‘Euripides’ on 20th October.

He was killed in action between 8th and 12th August 1915 during the Battle of Lone Pine. He is believed to be buried in the Lone Pine Cemetery, although the actual grave is unknown.
