Private William Sinclair Brock (Service No:1878) enlisted in the AIF on 6 January 1916 and served with 11th Depot Battalion before transferring to 52nd Infantry Battalion on 26 March 1916. Private Brock embarked from from Brisbane on 1 May 1916 on board HMAT Clan McGillivray. On 9 June 1917 Private Brock was severeley WIA at Messines, France - gunshot shrapnel to his left foot - and evacuated to England. On 10 September 1917, Private Brock embarked for the RTA on HT A38 Ulysses and was Discharged on 15 December 1917.
Born in Rockhampton QLD in 1898, Bill was the eldest child (and only son) of John Brock (b140 in Caithness, Scotland) and Elizabeth Noon (b1868 in Gayndah, QLD). John immigrated in 1873, arriving in Brisbane QLD on board the Great Queensland - he worked as a Drover and Station Overseer. John (a Station Overseer) and Elizabeth married in 1897 in Brisbane, QLD and settled in Muttaburra where John died in 1914.
Bill worked as a Station Hand in Muttaburra before his enlistment in the AIF and following his Discharge worked as a Labourer in Rockhampton, Fitzroy, Keppel and Hughenden (where he and Ellen met). In 1938 in Brisbane QLD, Bill married Ellen Joyce Dobson (b1905 in Bundaberg, QLD) - they had met in Hughenden in 1930 and in 1940 Ellen was working in Brisbane as a Machinist. Bill and Ellen settled in Brisbane where Bill worked as a Labourer and was a Munitions Worker in the 1940s/1950s. Bill died in 1979 and Ellen in 1995.
