Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

One of three brothers who served in WWII, Private Francis Patrick O'Connor (Service Nos:W23467/WX28357) initially served in the ACMF with 25th Light Horse (Machine Gun) Battalion from 19 December 1941 to 25 June 1942, and enlisted the next day 'in the field' in the AIF. Private O'Connor served with 25th Cavalry Regiment and 2/23rd Infantry Battalion in Borneo (Morotai, Tarakan, Balikapan) from 16 March 1945 to 15 January 1946, and was attached to 2/22 Pioneer Battalion at Discharge on 26 February 1946.

Frank was born in Narrogin, Western Australia in 1914, fourth of seven children of Francis Daniel O'Connor (b1881 at Port Wakefiled, South Australia) and Agnes Anastasia Roddan (b1882 in Lismore, New South Wales). Francis (a Blacksith in Narrogin) and Agnes married in 1908 in Northam, and lived in Narrogin, Beverley, Merredin and Yilgarn before settling in Perth in the early 1940s - Francis was a Blacksmith.

Frank worked in Merredin for ten years as a Shop Assistant before enlisting in the Army in 1941. Following Discharge, he returned to Merredin and worked as a Shop Assistant before joining his parents and youngest brother in Perth. Frank lived with his parents and youngest brother in Maylands, working as a Storeman and then as a Medical Orderly. Frank died in 1977.
