25 Feb 1917: | Honoured Military Medal, Military Medal 'At EAUCOURT LUABBAYE, FRANCE, on night of 25/26th February, 1917, during the operations on the MAZE, L/Cpl. BART displayed conspicuous gallantry in carrying out his duties as Brigade runner, and on three different occasions carried special despatches to the two battalions in the line. Heavy enemy barrages had to be passed through on each occasion, and the ground leading to the right battalion in the line was subjected to very heavy enemy artiller fire. On returning from this third trip, although exhausted, L/Cpl. BART volunteered to take a fourth despatch over the same area.' Source: 'Commonwealth Gazette' No. 140 Date: 27 August 1917 | |
