When George Eric was sixteen he enlisted for World War I. The family story has it that his other Annie Maria found out before the enlistment proceeded and the application was cancelled because he was "under age". Not to be deterred, George enlisted in World War II, 14 months after being reported as missing in Malaya George was located as a Prisoner of War in Thailand, where he saw out the war.
