Private Raymond Charles Hancock (Service Nos:N24351/N24051/NX149576) initially served in the ACMF from 24 February 1940 before enlisting in the AIF on 8 January 1943 with 1 Australian Supply Per Coy. Private Hancock served in New Guinea (20 December 1943 - 16 August 1945) with 39 Australian Supply Depot Platoon, transferring to 44 Australian Supply Depot Platoon on 31 May 1944. Private Hancock was attached to 44 Australian Supply Depot Platoon at Discharge on 2 April 1946.
Born in Sydney, New South Wales in 1920, Ray was fourth of five children of James Henry Hancock (b1880 in Rockhampton, QLD) and Letitia McLaren (b1888 in Brisbane, QLD). James (a Widower) and Letitia married in 1909 in Brisbane, then settling in Sydney where they raised their family. James worked in the Boot Trade - initially as a Pressman and later as a Bootmaker.
Ray was working in Sydney as a Woodworking Machinist with EW Watts before enlisting in the Army. Following his Discharge, he returned to Arncliffe in Sydney, living with his parents and working as a Wood Machinist until 1959, when he married Marjorie Edith Selfe (b1933 in Sydney, New South Wales) - Marjorie was a Process Worker. Ray and Marjorie settled in Sydney, where Ray worked as a Stores Attendant and Warehouseman until his death in 1973.
