Private Raymond Leslie Lidbury (Service No:WX22979) enlisted in the Army on 12 September 1944 with 1 Australian Army Service Corps (AASC) Training Battalion. Private Lidbury embarked with 2/22 Australian Supply Depot (ASD) Platoon from Brisbane for Wewak on 12 July 1945 on board the Duntroon. In New Guinea, Private Lidbury served with 76 and 60 Transport Platoons and embarked from Rabaul for Brisbane on 21 June 1946 on board the Canberra. Private Lidbury was attached to 2/25 Australian Supply Depot Platoon at Discharge on 13 August 1946.

Born in 1915 in Fremantle WA, Ray was the only child of Walter Thomas Lidbury (b1885 in London, England) and Helen Jane Toye (b1867 in London, England). Both Walter and Helen immigrated in 1909 - Walter arriving in Fremantle, WA on board the Ortona and Helen arriving in Albany, WA on board the Persic. Walter (a Farmer) and Helen (a School Assistant in London and Housekeeper at Donnelly River) married in Blackwood in 1911 and settled at Donnelly River via Manjimup where Walter was a Farmer. Following his service in WWI (Private; Service No:6347), Walter and Helen settled in Fremantle, where Walter was a 'Trainee'. Helen died in 1939 and Walter served in WWII (Private; Service No:W18606).

Ray worked at Shenton Park in Perth as a Mental Hospital Attendant, and in 1940 married Jean Margaret Rose (b1918 in Pingelly, WA). Following his Discharge from the Army, Ray and Jean lived in Perth where they raised their family and Ray worked as a Mental Hosptial Attendant and Truck Driver. Following Ray's death in 1978, Jean worked as an Assistant at Hollywood Repatriation Hospital. Jean died in 2007.
