Son of John O'Brien and Mary O'Brien of Coleraine, Victoria.
Commenced returned to Australia on 10 March 1918 aboard HT Durham Castler then transhipped to HT Orontes disembarking on 13 May 1918

In 1929 Michael was residing in Balranald, NSW then in 1940 he had moved to Kalkaroo Station, Mingary, SA
