Driver Harry Colin Mills was originally enlisted as a Gunner with E Coy.II Depot Battalion but developed a medical condition with his feet and was transferred to a Driver on the 4th of November 1916 with the 3rd D.A.C.
On the 30th of May 1916 Driver Harry Colin Mills was sent overseas to France. After just over one year Harry Colin Mills was sent to England for medical treatment but after a short time, he was declared medically unfit to continue in the war and returned to Australia in August 1917.
Driver Harry Colin Mills had served one and half years abroad and was medically discharged on the 8th of November 1917. Total service time was 2 years and 3 months.
Driver Harry Colin Mills was honoured with the
British War medal and the Victory Medal.
On return to Australia, he married Gert in 1925 and moved to Kaniva in 1921. Driver Harry Colin Mills with his wife and three children moved to Kalangadoo in 1943.
He was secretary of the Kalangadoo RSL at the time of his death in a road accident on the 10th of May 1956 aged 59.
Driver Harry ‘Skinny’ Colin Mills lies at rest within the gates of the Kalangadoo Cemetery.
