RUPERT DONALD FERGUSSON, son of Mr. Ernest Fairchild Fergusson, of the Bank of Australasia, Jerilderie, and Mrs. Elizabeth Fergusson, was born in Melbourne on 8th January, 1894.

He was educated at the University High School, Melbourne, and joined the service of the Bank at Coolamon, on 3rd March, 1914.

He enlisted on 2nd September, 1914, and served in Egypt, Gallipoli, France and Flanders. He received promotion to the rank of sergeant, and having been wounded three times (in the chest, arm, hand and leg), was finally discharged on 19th July, 1917.
