Add my storyBiography contributed by Stephen Brooks
George Daly was the son of Mrs. Jane Daly, of Chewton, Victoria. His father, Edward Daly, had passed away in 1897 when George was 16 years of age.
George’s eldest brother, 1405 Pte. John Daly 12th Battalion AIF had died of wounds at sea just off Gallipoli on 6 July 1915, aged 41.
George served with the 51st Battalion at Mouquet Farm on 3 September 1916 and was simply reported as missing.
Another brother, 3138 Pte. William Henry Daly 46th Battalion AIF, who had also gone mining to Western Australia, was sent home sick during June 1918.
George Daly's widowed mother had lost two sons and two grandsons killed during the First World War by 1917.
