He remained in England until 13 December 1916, when he sailed on the "Princess Henrietta" and arrived in France on 14 December 1916. (Moderator - Please note he DID NOT serve with the 22nd Battalion, this is a mistake in the two entries already posted.)
3 May 1917: Wounded AIF WW1, Private, 5582, Bullecourt (Second), Gunshot wounds to his left arm and left leg. The injury to his left arm was so serious that his arm had to be amputated.
