Private Andrews then served with the Battalion at Jacquinot Bay and Rabaul (6 January 1945 - 29 January 1946), and was attached to 29/46 Infantry Battalion at Discharge on 12 March 1946.
Dick was born in Melbourne, Victoria in 1917, eldest of four children of Frederick (Fred) Andrews (b1897 in Richmond, Melbourne, Victoria) and Elsie May Grigg (b1895 in Richmond, Melbourne, Victoria). Fred was a Labourer in 1915 when he enlisted in the Army (Private; Service No:4730), and following his Discharge in 1919, he and Elsie married in Melbourne, where they settled and raised their family. Fred worked as a Labourer and Tanner.

Following his Discharge he returned to Melbourne, where in 1946 he married Lorna(Sissy) Mary Blake (b1922 in Balranald, New South Wales) - Sissy served in the AWAS (Private; Service No:V505224).
