Harold Glew received the Military Medal while serving on the Western Front.
At Bellicourt and Nauroy on 29th/30th September and 1st October 1918. For conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty. He carried messages to Battalion Headquarters under heavy shell and Machine Gun fire during the advance on Nauroy and Le Catelet on 29th September. He carried messages practically all the night of 29th/30th September during the advance to the Railway cutting under very trying circumstances. On the afternoon of the 30th he carried a message out to a Platoon in face of extremely heavy Machine gun and shell fire, to what appeared almost certain death and succeedd in bringing back answers from the Platoon Commander. Owing to casualties to the Company Runners he had double work to do and he acted throughout the whole operation with great bravery and self sacrifice. In the operations of the last few months this soldier has carried out similar work in every engagement.
