David was the eldest of eight children of Adolph Henry Meyer (b1889 in Sydney, NSW) and Jessie Florence Gray (b1886 in Melbourne, Victoria. Adolph (a Labourer) and Jessie married in 1908 in Sydney, NSW where Adolph worked as a Builder's Labourer and Dock Labourer. By 1916 Adolph and Jessie had moved their family to WA, and Adolph was a Greaser/Mill Hand in Jarrahdale, WA in 1916 when he enlisted briefly in the AIF - he was a Private (Service No:4089) for about six weeks before being Discharged as Medically Unfit. By 1931 the family had moved to Carlisle in Perth, WA where Adolph worked as a Labourer.
David was a Labourer in Perth WA when he enlisted in the Militia in February 1941 (Private; W9114) with 16 Battalion. In June that year David enlisted in the AIF, serving as a Private (Service No:WX14336) with 2nd/1st Pioneer Battalion in the Middle East (7 November 1941 - 31 March 1942), New Guinea (28 August 1942 - 21 October 1943) and Borneo (22 May 1945 - 12 December 1945). David was Discharged in December 1945.
Returning to Carlisle, Perth WA David lived with his mother Jessie (Adolph had died in 1943) and worked as a Labourer and Mill Hand. He remained in the family home following Jessie's death in 1957 and worked as a Cleaner. David died in 1965.
