Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Leslie was the fourth of six children of Richard Baxter Casey (b1851 in Cork, Ireland) and Mary Elizabeth Chaplin (b1855 in Melbourne, Victoria). Richard immigrated in the mid 1850s with his parents and siblings and settled at Three Mile Creek in Beechworth, Victoria (Gold Rush). Richard and Mary married in 1873 in Beechworth, Victoria and lived there and in Whorouly in Victoria and in Forbes and Cobar in NSW before moving to Melbourne, Victoria in the mid 1880s. Following Richard's death in 1903 Mary moved to Peth WA.

Leslie was a Labourer in Melbourne, Victoria in 1902 when he married Elsie Rae Clark (b1883 in Melbourne, Victoria). Leslie worked as Butter Packer and Driver, and in June 1916 he was rejected for service in the AIF as Medically Unfit. He enlisted again in July 1917 and served with 8th Infantry Battalion (Private; Service No:7461). Leslie was WiA in France in August 1918 - severe Shell Wound to left arm and Chest and was Discharged in January 1919.

Returning to Melbourne in Victoria, Leslie and Elsie lived in Port Melbourne where Leslie was a Butter Packer. In 1930 the family moved to Doncaster in the Flinders Ranges in Victoria where Leslie was a Milk Tester and Grader. By 1943 the family had returned to Melbourne where Leslie worked as a Labourer (according to the Electoral Rolls - his Death Certificate lists his occupation as Engineer). Leslie died in 1949 and Elsie in 1955.
