We Remember Private Frederick Bulling.
Today we pause to remember the life and service of 4075 Private Frederick William Bulling, who was killed in action on the 9th of October 1917 at Broodenseide Ridge in Belgium.
Originally from Prahran, Victoria, Frederick worked as a carpenter’s apprentice before enlisting on the 15th of December 1915 with the 24th Battalion. He embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Wiltshire on 7 March 1916 for England. He joined his unit on the Western Front, France, on 5 August 1916.
During the following twelve months Frederick was hospitalised on two occasions due to illness and was evacuated to England on 17 April 1917 for treatment and recuperation. On 14 September he rejoined his unit in France.
Private Bulling was killed in action at Broodseinde Ridge, Belgium, on 9 October 1917. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial.
He was 19 at the time of his death.
